Lagoon leads the way as part of new Hull city centre trail
More than 40 one-and-a-half-metre puffins have popped up across Hull and the East Riding – including our very own Lagoon Puffin overlooking the Humber!
Bringing the story of the endangered seabird to life, the colourful creatures have been installed at locations across the region which they call home, including seven within just a short walk of each other in the city centre.
Throughout the summer months, a total of half a million seabirds gather on the Yorkshire coast – largely around the RSPB’s site at Bempton Cliffs – and among the most popular semi-permanent residents are the adorable puffins which attract many visitors to the idyllic East Yorkshire tourist hotspot.
While you will need your binoculars to see the evasive bird making its home and fishing for food, their significantly larger fibreglass cousins are now in situ ready to meet the thousands of people who are expected to be snapping selfies with them over the coming months.
Puffins Galore! follows on from the hugely successful ‘Larkin with Toads’ and ‘A Moth for Amy’ outdoor installations that captured the public’s imagination in previous years, and you can meet the newest additions right now.
As part of the wider trail, seven of the brightly coloured sculptures have been installed in Hull city centre – all within a 15-minute walk.
