Mother’s Day on Hull’s Fish Trail
Mums should be celebrated every day, but Mother’s Day calls for extra special thanks.
Mother’s Day falls on 27 March this year so it’s time to start thinking about gifts if you haven’t already.
There are the standard flower bouquets, chocolate boxes or handmade items from the kids, but Hull holds the key to plenty of unique and personal presents.
The Fish Trail in the Old Town meanders past fantastic shops and restaurants perfect for Mother’s Day.
Here are a few options to inspire you:
Leonardo’s/Bar82
Leonardo’s and Bar82 are popular venues in Princes Dock Street. The Bar82 bottomless brunch offers streaky pancakes, eggs Benedict and breakfast bagels with prosecco, mimosas and limoncello spritz.
If you’re looking for something more traditional, then pop down the street to Leonardo’s for a bistro lunch made up of homemade classics.
Hull Minster
After the regular Sunday services, Hull Minster is often open to the public to take in the sights of this spectacular church. There’s a small café inside for a pit stop between admiring the stained-glass windows, ornate carvings, memorials and more.
Cocoa Chocolatier and Bakehouse
If you can’t handle the stress of choosing a present for your mum, why not let her choose her own?
With a myriad of chocolates to choose from, the Cocoa Chocolatier and Bakehouse in Trinity Market also offers a feast box. This is a perfect picnic opportunity with sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche, brownie, chocolate chip scones with jam and clotted cream, and more.
If you arrive at the right time, you can also watch the delicacies being created.
The Brazilian Churrascaria/Bert’s Pasta Bar
If it’s some good grub you’re after, the Fruit Market has plenty of options to tantalise the tastebuds. Steak lovers will enjoy The Brazilian, while Italian fans can taste an array of tapas-style pasta dishes at Bert’s Pasta Bar.
If you love great homemade food with a top offering of craft ales, then book your place at Minerva. Make sure you get a window seat to enjoy views of the Humber while devouring the pub’s delicious fish dishes.
shop ‘til you drop
If you want to do more than go for a meal, then you can enjoy more of the Fruit Market via the wonderful stores. Mums can peruse ornaments, jewellery, and clothes at 19Point4, find some new foliage at Plant & Paint or Ophelia, buy homeware and artwork at Form Shop & Studio or choose relaxing bath bombs at Light & Scent.
Hitchcock’s
You don’t always have to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday – there’s always Saturday night to enjoy it, too. If your loved one is vegetarian, or wants to try something different, then you should take them to Hitchcock’s in Bishop Lane.
It is one of Hull’s longest-standing restaurants and whoever books the first table on the night chooses the cuisine, with options including Japanese, Italian, Cajun, Russian, Mexican, and British. This buffet-style restaurant is also BYOB, and it’s your moral obligation to try the pecan pie.
The Deep
Contrary to popular belief, The Deep isn’t solely enjoyed by children and families. Europe’s only submarium is also a great place for couples and friends. Tickets also last 12 months so you can return to the penguins, sea turtles, sharks, and sea worms as often as you want.
What are you doing this Mother’s Day?
