Hull is the Northern Powerhouse’s gateway into Europe.
And it can also be the starting point of a transformation that benefits the whole region.
Lagoon Hull wants to attract investment and talent to the area and to do that successfully, we must improve our connectivity with the wider region, country and rest of the world.
By building a new road on the estuary, we can expand the city’s traffic capacity and improve access for cyclists and pedestrians.
Traffic modelling by Highways England has shown that 100 per cent of through traffic would move to the lagoon road, reducing delays and improving access to the port.
Our project also includes plans for a new outer harbour and port facilities, which have the potential for more than 84 hectares of new quayside operation land.
This will also help unlock the potential of the Enterprise Zone at Paull and the eastern industrial areas of the city. And it will enable the relocation of bulk and general cargo operations from the western docks.
This could free up space to allow their redevelopment for projects such as city centre cruise facilities and riverside residential and commercial use.
Together with the flood protection, new jobs and the placemaking waterfront and visitor destination benefits that Lagoon Hull brings, we can show the world another way to tackle the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.
